Alabama Takes Home 6 Victories from Yellow Jacket Invitational - ROLLTIDE.COM - University of Alabama Official Athletic SitePublished by
ATLANTA - - The University of Alabama track and field team won six events and set almost a dozen personal records over the weekend at Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Invitational. The Tide won three throwing events, two jumping events and one relay over the course of the two-day meet. In total, Alabama athletes finished among the top three in 21 of 25 events. "We accomplished some really good things," Alabama head coach Dan Waters said. "I'm pleased with some of the performances. At the same time, as a team, we learned we have a lot to work on in order to be as good as we can possibly be." Redshirt freshman Hayden Reed captured wins in the men's shot put and discus. Sophomore Justin Fondren won the men's high jump for the second consecutive week. Freshman Quanesha Burks won the women's long jump, and junior Nia Barnes won the women's javelin throw. The relay team of Dwight Davis, Alex Amankwah, Jacopo Lahbiand Ken Taylor finished the meet by winning the men's 4x400-meter relay by more than seven seconds Saturday. Barnes (187 feet, 2 inches) was the top collegiate finisher in Alabama's only competition on Friday - the women's hammer throw.
