Burchell Captures NCAA Women's 60-meter Dash Title; Men finish 6th, Women 19th at NCAA Indoor Championships - ROLLTIDE.COM - University of Alabama Official Athletic SitePublished by
Albuquerque, N.M. - University of Alabama junior Remona Burchell became the first woman in school history to win an indoor national championship in the 60-meter dash, and the men's team earned its best finish since 2002 on Saturday, the final day of the NCAA Track and Field Championships in Albuquerque, N.M. "We're happy with our national champions, and we're really pleased with the way everyone performed," Alabama head coach Dan Waters said. "The rule of thumb is that nothing bad ever happens at the national championships, and that was certainly true for this one. There is really no better learning experience for our younger competitors than being here." Burchell ran a record-setting 7.11 in the finals of the 60 meters, edging Kentucky's Dezerea Bryant (7.12) at the finish line and earning the first indoor title by an Alabama woman in any event since Flora Hyacinth won the triple jump in 1989. Burchell also became the sixth woman in school history to win an individual indoor national championship. Along with being a new school record, Burchell's time of 7.11 is the second-best collegiate time in history. Read the full article at: www.rolltide.com
