NCAA D2 Regional and NJCAA D3 Championships this weekend - NCAA Cross Country PreviewPublished by
Grand Valley State Hopes to Take the Next Step to Sweeping National TitlesPublished by Adam Schneider/RunnerSpace.com/College on Nobember 4, 2015 This weekend the focus is on the NCAA D2 regional meets (all held Saturday, November 7th(. The favorites should easily make it through the seven regional meets. The NJCAA D3 National championships will be held in Westfield, Massachusetts. There are a few regional meets in addition where D1 runners can compete but most of the D1 coaches are out recruiting in anticipation of the early signing period running from November 11th to November 18th.
Grand Valley State has won the last three NCAA D2 women’s titles and just beat their top expected competition, Hillsdale, at the GLIAC conference championships. #1 Grand Valley State will face #3 Hillsdale and #8 Northern Michigan at the NCAA D2 Midwest Championships in Evansville, Indiana on November 7th. The #1 Grand Valley State Men will be in the same location against #7 Southern Indiana and Johnnie Guy. Grand Valley State has been the NCAA D2 runner-up the last two years.
Three-time defending NCAA D2 men’s champion #3 Adams State just swept the RMAC Conference championships at home. They will try to defend their three consecutive South Central titles against #4 Colorado Mines and #9 Western State in Canyon, Texas. #2 Adams State women will also try to defend their three consecutive women’s titles against #7 Western State.
The NCAA D2 West Region Meet will be hosted by Western Oregon in Monmouth, Oregon. The consistently strong #2 men from Chico State will try to defend their three consecutive titles against their toughest competition, #5 Alaska-Anchorage and #6 Cal Poly Pomona. On the women’s side #4 Chico State will try to get their first West Region title in three years ahead of 2013 West Region champion #6 Alaska-Anchorage and #9 Cal Baptist.
At Stanley Park in Westfield, Massachusetts Harper Junior College men and Suffolk County Community College women are the top ranked teams coming into the championships.
