Wildcats head to Roy Griak InvitationalPublished by
OGDEN, Utah The Weber State men's and women's cross country team will travel to Minnesota this weekend. The Wildcats will run against some of the best in the nation in one of the most prestigious races in the country, the Roy Griak Invitational.
lt;br />The women's race will feature the third-ranked team in the nation, Michigan State. Another top 15 team will be running as well, as Butler comes in ranked 11th. But host Minnesota and Iowa State have run well at this meet in the past.
lt;br />After two warm-ups races earlier in the season, the women's team will look for junior Jamie Stokes to lead the way. Stokes is coming off a 6th place finish at the BYU Autumn Classic and hopes to build off her 81st place finish last season. Sophomore Hailey Ricks and Ellie Child will both look to stay close behind Stokes. Ricks was the Wildcats second runner last season at this meet with a 60th place finish.
lt;br />After the big three, the coaching staff will look to see how the freshmen will run in such a big meet. They are looking for them to continue to develop as they prepare for the bigger meets later in the season.
lt;br />"The women's race is really loaded team wise, " WSU head coach Paul Pilkington said. "It will be a chance for our freshmen women who have never raced 6k before. We will find out how they handle that extra thousand meters and Griak is a hilly course. "
lt;br />The men's race will feature two teams ranked in the top 25, North Carolina at 19 and Texas at 24.
lt;br />The men's team will be lead by the duo of seniors Mike Hardy and Trevor Ricks. Hardy will hope to overcome the mishap at BYU and once again be at the front of the pack. Ricks who last season led the Wildcats to a 17th place finish will look to improve on his 33rd place finish from last season. Look for Tyler Robinson and Tip Worob to stick close to the top two.
lt;br />Just like the women's team, the men are still trying to solidify their fifth runne Read the full article at: www.weberstatesports.com
