[Women's Outdoor Track & Field] Green wins Hillsdale HeptathlonPublished by
(Hillsdale, Mich.) Brittany Green improved one place from last year to win the heptathlon at the Hillsdale College Gina Relays. Over the two days of competition she had two NAIA provisional qualifying performance and set a school record. Green began with 15.04 clocking in the 100 meter hurdles, just under the NAIA provisional standard of 15.09. After clearing 5-2.5 in the high jump, Brittany's first attempt in the shot put measured 41-6.5, adding almost three inches to the school record set last week by Haley Russell. A 26.37 in the 200 meters completed the day. Saturday, Green added a second provisional mark going 18-1.5 in the long jump. A 98-9 effort in the javelin and a relaxed 2:48.48 for 800 meters gave Green 4693 points for the seven events, a new best by 208 points. The total also put her third on the NAIA national list. Thursday night CU distance women raced well in the 5,000 meters. Junior, CallyAnne Wyma stayed at the front of her heat for the first two miles then dueled Elaine Lowe of Cleary College for two laps before breaking away for the win. Wyma's time of 18:09.70 lowered her best by 35 seconds and moved her to third on the CU all-time list. She finished 28th of 111 entries. Sydney Tremaine's 19:29.41 pulled teammate Erin Laplander to 19:31.80 to a 56 second PR while Kayla Ovokaitys had a 19:46.33 debut in the event. Anita Souza improved her spot on the NAIA list running 14.26 to place fourth in the championship section of the 100 meter hurdles. Souza also improved her best to 1:05.83 in the 400 meter hurdles. Lindsay Lipa placed fifth in the triple jump with a PR, 36-7. Saturday's highlights included Rachel Skinner's freshman record in the javelin. After a throwing a PR of 99' 2" on her first attempt, Skinner fourth round attempt measured 102-9 breaking the mark 102-2 set by Brittany Green in 2012. Skinner finished seventh. The women's 4 x 800 meter relay of Trinity Hulst, Cathy Coryell, Audrey Tremaine and Julie Oosterhouse battled conference rivals, Siena Heights until the final 200 meters. Oosterhouse 2:14.8 anchor leg gave the Golden Eagles a three second margin to win in 9:27.74. The time was just under the NAIA automatic qualifying standard of 9:28.00.
