Alabama welcomes 8 new players expected to enroll this week | AL.com By Matt Scalici of AL.com January 6, 2014 Monday marks a new beginning for the Alabama Crimson Tide as players return to Tuscaloosa to enroll in classes for their spring semester while several new players are welcomed into the fold. Eight new players are expected to enroll at Alabama this week and begin classes as they prepare for Alabama's winter conditioning and spring practice sessions.
The group includes two players who have already signed their letters of intent with Alabama back in December. Junior college defensive linemen Jarran Reed and D.J. Pettway join the Crimson Tide after winning a junior college national championship as teammates at East Mississippi Community College last fall. Reed, a 6-foot-4, 320-pound defensive tackle originally from North Carolina, finished his season at EMCC with 66 tackles and 3.5 sacks and ranks as the nation's No. 2 JUCO defensive tackle according to the 247Composite rankings. Pettway, a 6-foot-3, 250-pound defensive end, was previously enrolled at Alabama after signing with the Tide in 2011. Pettway was dismissed in the spring of 2013 along with three other Tide players for his involvement in an on-campus robbery.
