Oregon Brings in a Loaded Recruiting ClassPublished by
Oregon brought in the top recruiting classes for men and women according to track and field news. The high ranking was confirmed on the men’s side as Freshman Edward Cheserek won four races including conference, region and NCAA titles. Fellow freshman Jake Leingang was a valuable scoring member all season long. Junior newcomer Tanguy Pepiot joined the team late and was a valuable member of the cross country team. Bryan Fernandez, Travis Neuman, Jackson Darland, Dan Oekerman, Sam Prakel. The women had strong contributions all season long from local freshman Maggie Schmaedick (83rd at NCAA) but transfers Lindsay Crevoiserat and Julia Zrinyi and freshman Alli Cash were injured before the start of the season. Crevoiserat contributed at Pac-12, West Region and NCAAs but did not repeat her all-American performance.
The non-distance signees were also extremely strong. Track all-American Devon Allen and Thomas Tyner have football duties and will be limited in the their contributions to the track team. In the Ducks’ first meet multi-event athletes Mitch Modin, Joe Delgado and Claire Thomas should unveil their talents. Field athletes will likely join this opening meet including (in other events than their much heralded outdoor events) ’13 high school discus leader Cullen Prena, high school girl’s javelin record holder Haley Crouser, vaulter Cole Walsh. A large group of middle distance transfers with great credentials (Sam Murphy, Julia Zrinyi, Lindsay Crvoiserat, Frida Berge, Mel Newberry, Eric Jenkins, Brett Johnson, and Tanguy Pepiot) along with much heralded Seattle native Marcus Chambers in the 400, Canadian sprint star Christine Brennan, and ’13 high school 60m national leader Marybeth Sant, hurdle and triple all-American Sasha Wallace all among a very talented and deep class of newcomers.
