It would be easy to say Annie LeBlanc has a strong bloodline and chalk up her extraordinary three-year rise to the top of the Canadian track and field world to genetics.

But that would be a great disservice to the 16-year-old 400- and 800-metre runner from Repentigny, because what she's accomplished in so short a time is about far more than simple DNA.
