Interesting ranking for the women as it doesn't include the second best prospect, transfer Michelle Williams (from Adams State).

The feature recruit is Jordan Hasay, '08 Olympic Trials finalist, '09 Pan Am junior 1,500 meter champion.  She is #6 all-time among US juniors in the 1,500 at 4:14.50 from the '08 Oly Trials (ranked tenth in the world for juniors in 2008).  She was ranked first among high school athletes in the 1500/mile for 2007, 2008 and 2009 and first in the 3200/2mile for '07 and '08 and second in 2009.  As a freshman she ranked third in both events.  In what will probably be her best race, the 5,000 meters, she has yet to run over that distance except for cross country meets.

An interesting development is that she has grown between two and four inches since last spring (writer and coach have different estimates).  Because of her ten age-group records and competing in the Olympic Trials last year she was recently ranked the #8 high school athlete of the decade.  #1 is Lebron James and #10 is Dwight Howard.  She recently finished 18th at the NCAA cross country championships.

Michelle Williams, a junior (transfer from Adams State), joined the team this year after finishing third at the NCAA division II championships in the 400 meters.  She was the top seed coming into the meet at 53.49 and had run 23.99 (wind reading ?)

Anne Kesselring competed in the world junior championships at 800 meters #25 '08 (2:05.41).  She was sixth in her semifinal in the 2008 World junior championships.  She set her pr in 2007 when she ran 2:04.96 (7/22/2007).  She has also run 4:19.84 for 1,500 meters.

Thrower Laura Bobek will attempt to replace two-time NCAA champion Rachel Yurkovich as Oregon's star high school thrower now competing for the Ducks.  She was ranked fifth among high school athletes in the shot put, 48-7, and sixth in the discus with an Oregon state record of 162-1.

Sophomore transfer (UCLA) Camilla Dencer ran 2:07.97 last year for the Bruins.  She was seventh in the west region meet and ran on the 4x400 meter relay for the Bruins at the NCAA meet.  She qualified for the regional meet in the 400 meters with a personal record of 54.27.  In 2008 she was third in the US junior meet and competed at the World Junior Championships.  She ran her pr as a senior in 2:07.54.  She was also a two-time Cal state scorer in the hj ('06 2nd and '07 4th) and has a pr of 5-8.

Melanie Vertrees was a star athlete at Kent Meridian last year.  She has a pr of 5-10 in the high jump and scored 4624 points in the heptathlon but based on current information she is focusing on the high jump.

Oregon also picked up Oregon state high shool champions, Chloe Steinbeck in the 800(pr 2:12.19) and Taylor Wallace had four straight in the 1,500 and 3,000 (13 overall).  She set 4A state records in the 800 (2:10.57) and 1,500 (4:28.79).   In 2009 she was third in the US junior and Pan Am junior 1,500 meters.  She was also in the hunt for the seventh spot on Oregon's cross country team at the NCAA meet.

Also new on the team are 2009 New Jersey and  Washington state champions Melanie Thompson in the 1,600 (4:46.28 #3 US HS at 1,600) and indoor 3,200 (10:39.39) and Becca Friday (800 pr 2:11.40). Arizona high school product Sarah Penney had the top 800 in the state her junior and senior year (2:11.63 pr and 4:52.41 mile)
